The Music of Robert Atyeo

robert-atyeo-with-guitar-backshot"All the money in the world can't buy you a nickel of time" and "The Floor is Closer Than You Think" are only two of the many lessons of life Robert Atyeo sings about.

Often compared to J. J. Cale, John Prine and Tom Waits, Atyeo is a songwriter’s songwriter.  His songs take the listener all over the emotional map with a delivery that is boisterously entertaining and wry observations often verging on the black.  Growing audiences enthusiastically applaud his performances, relating to his words, his humour, his sensitivity and warmth.

Robert has worn out a Toyota and a Volvo touring North America from coast to coast, playing festivals, concert series and his favourite house concerts.  The band was known then as The Friendly Giants (Willie P Bennett and Tony Quarrington) until they were kindly requested by Friendly himself to please refrain from using that particular handle…or else!  They were one of the best loved acoustic bands of the 1990’s and now after a 7 year break to teach and raise his son, Atyeo is back with a new CD  #4 and is ready to again wear out yet another vehicle performing coast to coast.

Whether it’s the Montreal Jazz Festival or a living room in Kenora, you can be sure there will be laughter and tears, leaving a satisfied crowd waiting for his return.
